Before moving the sofa, measure the route
Doors, turns, and elevators matter when deciding whether furniture will fit.
A sofa can fit in the living room and still fail to make it through the entrance. Measure the whole route before arranging the move.
Start with the furniture
Write down width, height, and depth. Check whether legs or other parts can be removed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not assume a backrest comes off just because a different model allowed it.
Keep a photo alongside the measurements so similar pieces do not get mixed up. If a retailer supplies packaged dimensions, save those too.
Follow the route to the room
Measure the usable doorway opening, not just the outside of the frame. Check corridors, landings, and turns. If there is an elevator, ask about its moving rules and check both its interior dimensions and its door.
A tape measure alone cannot settle every tight turn. If the route looks difficult, consult the people handling the move. Avoid improvised lifting at height or dismantling building fixtures.
Mark the space left over
You can outline the furniture on the floor with removable tape if the surface allows it. This helps show whether drawers can open, people can walk past, and chairs can move.
“Will it fit?” is only the first question. You also need to know whether the rest of the room will still work once the furniture is inside.
